GRAB IT FOR KINDLE
If you enjoy biblical fiction and haven’t had the chance to read The Wives of King David series by Jill Eileen Smith, I would encourage you to look up her books.
Bathsheba, the third and final title in this series was my favorite. While many will recognize the story of David and Bathsheba as the infamous adultery / murder scandal that it was, Jill also writes a beautiful story of repentance, forgiveness and grace.
I enjoyed the liberties that Jill took with the story while staying true to the biblical account. Jill was able to capture the human frailties and insecurities of David, while showing just how many depended on his strong leadership. As much as he was a man after God’s own heart, this story also suggests the struggles he may have had with so much power at his fingertips and the pressures he was under as king.
I had never really stopped to think about Bathsheba’s loneliness while Uriah was away fighting on behalf of King David, but the way Jill wrote this story, it really made sense to me as to why Bathsheba may not have tried harder to resist the advances of David. Not only could she have lost her life for refusing her king - she was most likely very vulnerable emotionally. Although these are the author’s suppositions, it still added a lot of meaning to the story for me.
I always look forward to reading novels by authors who are able to stay true to a scriptural account while adding interesting details that flesh out what many of us have wondered about. Although David and Bathsheba certainly endured the consequences of their actions, they also experienced the forgiveness of God after they repented and this story is a beautiful example of redemption.
I look forward to reading more of Jill’s books in the future and can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

Can She Ever Find Redemption After One Night of Passion with the King?
“As the last word dried on the page, Bathsheba read the message through blurred vision. ‘I am with child’. She would not sign her name or address the message. He would know by the press of her husband’s seal on the wax...”
Bathsheba is a woman longing for love. With her devout husband, Uriah, away fighting the king's wars for many months at a time, discontent and loneliness dog her steps--and make it frighteningly easy to succumb to King David's charms. Though she immediately regrets her involvement with the powerful king, the pieces are set in motion that will destroy everything she holds dear. Can she find forgiveness at the feet of the Almighty? Or has her sin separated her from God--and David--forever?
Bathsheba reveals the depth of God’s grace and forgiveness. You will never read the story of David and Bathsheba in the same way again.
“A rich tapestry of an era filled with love and longing that rings true across the centuries.” – Siri Mitchell, author of Love’s Pursuit

"Bathsheba is a wonderful illumination of David and Bathsheba's story, ultimately one of redemption and restoration with Adonai. The historical detail drew me in as much as the vivid emotional drama, making this biblical account one that will stay with me forever."
