BOOK REVIEW: The King and Dr. Nick – What Really Happened to Elvis and Me

All diehard Elvis fans will want a copy of this book.   I was young when Elvis died and didn’t quite understand or comprehend all of the media hype and rumors.   I enjoyed reading this book and especially found it fascinating to hear Dr. Nick’s side of the story.

It’s common knowledge that Elvis had some quirks and strange habits but this book gives you a closer look at Elvis’s life behind the scenes, and the details of what happened on August 16, 1977.  Prior to reading this book, I wasn’t aware that Elvis had colon problems as well as glaucoma symptoms in one eye.  I also didn’t know that he was basically nocturnal, and even went to the dentist in the middle of the night.  Those most prominent in Elvis’s life rearranged their schedules to accommodate him, and some even enabled him to abuse his body with drugs.  It was very sad to read the medical details of how Elvis was found. A superstar with fame, fortune and adoring fans – dead on the bathroom floor - it just didn’t seem a fitting end for “The King” of rock and roll.

Even sadder was the facts showing that he may have brought it upon himself.  The book reveals the autopsy results of what was found in Elvis’s system shortly after he died.  As I read all of the drugs listed, it reminded me of Anna Nicole Smith and so many other stars who have abused drugs and died from overdose.  Along with photos of his relationship with Elvis, Dr. Nick shares what it was like going through the court proceedings and how it felt to defend himself, when accused of contributing to the death of Elvis Presley.   You won’t want to miss reading this book, if you still love "all things Elvis."
