BOOK REVIEW: Beguiled

Beguiled is the result of best selling romance author, Deeanne Gist and suspense writer, Mark Bertrand’s combination of talent and imagination.

Their main character Rylee Monroe is a dog walker in the historic and wealthy district of Charleston, where a “Robin Hood” style thief is on the loose.  Valuable pieces are being stolen from homes and then mysteriously donated to non-profit organizations.   After Rylee walks into a client’s home and sees someone fleeing through the window, she begins to struggle with fear.  She becomes nervous and jumpy after four homes are broken into – three of them being her clients.

Rylee starts to feel targeted and teams up with local reporter Logan Woods who is covering the burglaries.  When Rylee is brought in for questioning and becomes a suspect in the crimes, she is furious and becomes more determined to help Logan find the Robin Hood burglar and protect her reputation.  As they begin to close in on the perpetrator, someone close to Rylee turns on her and she finds herself fighting for her life as she makes the startling discovery that her parents were murdered.

This is a fast paced, action packed story, combining suspense and romance – quite a change from Deeanne Gist’s historical fiction.

Back Cover:
Rylee Monroe, a dogwalker in Charleston's wealthiest neighborhood, never feared the streets at night. But now a thief is terrorizing the area and worse, someone seems to be targeting her. Reporter Logan Woods is covering the break-ins with the hope of publishing them as a true-crime book. The more he digs, the more he realizes this beguiling dogwalker seems to be at the center of everything. As danger draws ever closer, Logan must choose: Chase the girl, the story, or plunge into the shadows after the villain who threatens everything?
