Stars Collide

Stars Collide is the first book in the Backstage Pass series from Janice Thompson and makes for an extremely entertaining read.   I could not help but empathize with Kat as she tried to care for her elderly grandmother, Lenora Worth.

Lenora’s confused, aging mind is often stuck in the past where she was once a glamorous Hollywood star.  Kat worries about Lenora’s mental health and is often embarrassed by her grandmother’s quirky behaviors.  As unusual as Lenora is, she is an endearing character who tugs at your heart.  I laughed several times at her outrageous behavior.

When the television sitcom that Kat stars in decides its time for her on screen character Angie to marry, Kat is nervous and thrilled all at the same time.  Her love interest on television is also her love interest in real life, although Kat and Scott try to keep their budding romance under wraps.

When “Jack” proposes to “Angie” as part of the sitcom’s story, the lines between television and real life become especially blurry as Lenora is convinced that Kat is getting married and begins to initiate big plans for Kat’s dream wedding.  This book is plentiful with twists, turns and hilarious mix-ups which make for a light-hearted, sweet romance.  Although I thought I knew exactly where the story was headed, Janice tossed in a curve ball which was a fantastic surprise.

One of my favorite parts of the book is when Kat meets Scott’s parents for the first time.  Lenora is her usual eccentric self but you can’t help but love her as she revels in the attention as a “famous” television star.  I found it sweet that the real stars of the show allowed Lenora to shine and take center stage.

I also like how the author’s writing enhanced the character traits of selflessness in Kat which is a refreshing change from the vanity and conceit that many young Hollywood stars portray.  She didn’t have a snobby bone in her body and was constantly putting her elderly grandmother first.   She was also very forthcoming about her faith in Christ and I really like the path that Janice took in creating characters who were wholesome.  The purity of this love story is a breath of fresh air!

New Series Takes Readers Into the Glamorous Life
of a Hollywood Sitcom Celebrity and Her Quest for Love
From author who is a seasoned screenwriter with an insider’s perspective on the entertainment industry, comes the first book Stars Collide in the new series from Janice Thompson, “Backstage Pass.”
In Stars Collide, Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy don't just play two people who are secretly in love on a television sitcom—they are also head over heels for each other in real life. When the lines between reality and TV land blur, they hope they can keep their relationship under wraps.

But when Kat's grandmother, an aging Hollywood starlet with a penchant for wearing elaborate evening gowns from Golden Age movies, mistakes their on-screen wedding proposal for the real deal, things begin to spiral out of their control. Will their secret be front-page news in the tabloids tomorrow? And can their budding romance survive the onslaught of paparazzi, wedding preparations, and misinformed in-laws?
From the sound stage to a Beverly Hills mansion to the gleaming Pacific Ocean, Stars Collide takes readers on a roller-coaster tour of Tinseltown, packing both comedic punch and tender emotion.

Janice Thompson is a seasoned romance author and screenwriter. An expert at pulling the humor from the situations we get ourselves into, Thompson affords an inside look at TV land, drawing on her experiences as a screenwriter. She is the author of the Weddings by Bella series and lives in Texas.
