The Stars For A Light

 *Old cover

First book in the Cheney Duvall, M.D. series by the father/daughter team of Gilbert and Lynn Morris, The Stars For A Light reminded me a lot of the Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman television program.

Cheney Duvall is a bright, spirited young woman who struggles with being accepted as a doctor in the 1800’s.   Very few take her seriously and she has to work harder to prove that she’s qualified to have the title of M.D.  Unable to easily find a position after graduating medical school, Cheney takes the first job offered to her as accompanying physician on a ship carrying unmarried women from New York to Washington to become brides.   Cheney’s first job is made even harder when she finds out that her nurse is a man!   In completely unconventional roles, Cheney and her male nurse Shiloh, find themselves caught up in an adventure where they encounter plenty of hardships and challenges.

With interesting characters and plenty of historical facts and background mixed in, this series is perfect for those who are looking for clean, historical fiction written from a Christian perspective.

First published in 1994 by Bethany House, The Stars For A Light has a new cover and is being republished by Hendrickson Publishers.
