Nearing Home

Billy Graham’s newest book, Nearing Home, is an inspirational but sometimes bittersweet read.  At 93 years of age, Billy Graham has surprised himself (and many others) that he’s still on this side of heaven.  His longing for “home” and his beloved wife Ruth, is very evident all throughout this title but in no way is this a book about giving up and waiting to die.

I was encouraged by the advice and wisdom he shares; most of it very practical!  He shares many of his life lessons and personal reflections and pairs them with scripture.  I also enjoyed his light humor as he wrote about the aging process and what he thinks of it so far.

While its clear that Billy Graham faces physical challenges, he also attempts to make the best of it and enjoy life as much as he can.  He is also still very focused on others and those he will be leaving behind.

As anyone familiar with Rev. Graham would expect, his faith and hope in Christ is the central theme of Nearing Home.  At the end of the book, he talks about heaven as our ultimate goal and writes to those who may not have complete assurance of heaven.

This book is full of wisdom from one of the most respected evangelists the world has ever known.  For those who have enjoyed Billy Graham’s ministry, this book will be a most welcome addition to their library.
