Where Wildflowers Bloom

The Civil War is over and Faith Lindberg is ready for a fresh start, but life isn’t cooperating.

Faith longs to leave Missouri and make a new life out west, but her grandfather’s health is declining.  She’s been waiting for her brother and the man she loves to return from war and there’s no sign of them.  All of her plans seem to fall through and her situation looks hopeless.  When Faith takes over her grandfather’s mercantile, she’s met with some resistence from the men in her community.   Unless she’s able to make the store profitable, she’ll never be able to convince her grandfather to sell it and move .

I felt sorry for Faith because she has so many dreams and aspirations in this story, and yet keeps hitting a brick wall at every turn.  Her heart is broken twice, and she's left longing for the men she’s lost to the war; her brother and her beau.  She’s also challenged by her stubborn grandfather who keeps digging his heels in and clinging to the past.   I admired that no matter how hard life got for her, she didn’t give up easily or quit.

I also liked the romantic portion of this book and how the author contrasted the two men who are competing for Faith’s heart.  It’s obvious to the reader which one Faith should choose, but Faith is torn between the two.   This made for a great page turner, because the tension is pretty thick between the three of them at times.  I enjoyed all of the characters in this book and look forward to more of this series.

Where Wildflowers Bloom is Book 1 in the Sisters at Heart series.   Book 2, When the Heart Heals will continue the stories of Faith, Rosemary, and Cassie.

From the Back Cover:

The Civil War stole a father and brother from Faith Lindberg--as well a Royal Baxter, the man she wanted to marry. With only her grandfather left, she dreams of leaving Noble Springs, Missouri, and traveling west to Oregon to start a new life, away form the memories that haunt her.But first she must convince her grandfather to sell the family's mercantile and leave a town their family has called home for generations.

When Royal Baxter suddenly returns, Faith allows herself to hope that she and royal will finally wed. but does he truly love her? Or will another man claim her heart?
