Hooray for another clean, family friendly movie with a great storyline! We need more like this one.
This movie is about a family going through a divorce. Matthew, a typical teenager, is upset over his parents breaking up and begins acting out. When he vandalizes the local church, he’s required to help in the repairs to avoid charges being pressed against him.
Ernest, the local woodcarver, takes Matthew’s actions personal, because most of what was destroyed is his beautiful handcarved woodwork. Although he’s been a bit of a recluse while grieving for his beloved wife, Ernest agrees to be involved with the church repairs, and to try and replace his orginal woodwork.
This is a great story of mercy, forgiveness and grace and restoration. I adored Ernest in this movie and think everyone needs an Ernest in their life! The way he reaches out to Matthew and is able to break down some of the rebellion and barriers is very heartwarming to watch.
About the Movie:
Matthew Stevenson is a troubled kid from a broken home. When he vandalizes the local church to get back at his parents, Matthew has to repair the damage to the church to avoid criminal charges. While working at the church, he meets Ernest (John Ratzenberger), an accomplished wood carver who created the intricate woodwork decoration that Matthew destroyed. Ernest has become something of a hermit, but reluctantly comes out of reclusion to help repair the church. Now Ernest and Matthew must work together to preserve the church's beautiful antiquity, and along the way, they also manage to restore their faith in God and in life.
