An Appalachian Summer By: Ann H. Gabhart
Ann Gabhart has long been one of my favorite authors and this new book did not disappoint me.
Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres to read. I enjoyed learning more about the FNS (Frontier Nursing Service.)
Ann did a great job of taking history and bringing it to life in this book. Readers learn about Mary Breckenridge who is also known as the founder of American nurse-midwifery.
The characters are very real and easy to relate to. My favorite character was Aunt Truda who gives her niece Piper the extra nudge she needs to spread her wings and follow her dreams.
Aunt Truda is forward thinking for her time, a bit sassy, and adds an interesting flair to the story line. While there is some romance in this book, it is also filled with hardships, heartaches, and loss.
I felt a little sad when I turned the last page. I would love to read more about these characters.
If you enjoy heartwarming stories with interesting history mixed in, this is a great book to read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.
